(UN)ONES performing at TripSpace
Saturday 18th Feb 2017
"Trip Space Projects is a new and innovative cultural space providing progressive activities for contemporary performance and social engagement. (...) We cultivate an environment in which the body, the ecology of the being and the social cultural landscape are engaged through a range of learning practices, artistic events, social interactions. TripSpace Projects welcomes contemporary choreography, improvisation and artistic forms of expressions that don't fit mainstream categories." - TripSpace
Can you be yourself in a group? (UN)ONES portrays how individuality can be suppressed in society. Personal statements fight against universal truths and conformity. From all, to all of us.
"I witnessed Individuality embodied; I could empathise with their [dancers] struggles and external pressures. A choreography that is brilliantly crafted and merges perfectly with the music"
(Roman Perona, audience member of (UN)ONES
performance in May 2016 at Barbican Centre)
A dance piece previously commissioned by and presented at Barbican and also shown at The Place in the opening night of Resolution! Festival 17. (UN)ONES portrays how individuality can be suppressed in society: a constant fight against conformity, a group where one can stand out and reveal oneself. There are personal statements being presented: I am who I am, what I want to be and not what I am expected to. Sharing ideas such as: gender equality, denial of social conventions and universal truths, the freedom of being and one's expression.
This time, the work will be performed in a more intimate environment and it is exciting to revisit and explore (UN)ONES.
The original soundtrack is from the composer Henry Bird, currently studying at Guildhall Music School, London.
