As part of Youth Takeover Festival at Rich Mix, London, I led and produced a 2 days cross arts residency, MixLabs. (UN) is a dance solo that was performed at MixLabs showcase event in August 2016.
(UN) portrays an individual's journey, where one searches for its identity. A journey in which the audience is confronted with the experience of finding and staying true to themselves.
How many Is can one body own? How many Is do we build? How many Is do we go through until we find ourselves?
The working process of this piece was challenging in different way.
I had the concept and the design of the piece pretty clear. Besides, working with Inês (Dancer) was a bonus, once we worked with each other before and she knew my work. With only 2 days of rehearsals, time was -once again- a pressure for us. We got through it eventually and successfully.
I also gained a much better notion about timings but specially, putting myself in Ines' shoes hen it came to understand a more natural way of moving, and what movements could work better in sequence.
Music wise, I intended to bring a more heavy tension to this piece, emphasising the pressure we might go through when finding ourselves.
